The student manager of Channel 20, Aleks Panovska, is a senior and has been working with Channel 20 since her freshman year.

When flipping through the channels to catch a favorite TV show or procrastinate on that upcoming paper, how many students pause on 20? When seeking to publicize an event, how many organizations realize television is an available media outlet at Denison?

Channel 20 content is open to the entire student body, and includes campus safety information, the weather forecast, a message from President Knobel, and information about upcoming events on campus, such as sports games and student performances.

"Some things have to be posted, like H1N1 information and how to stay healthy," said senior International Studies and Political Science double major, Aleks Panovska, who manages the station.

The channel is also available for use by campus groups who want to publicize events or services. Organizations can have their content aired on the channel simply by emailing Panovska. Some examples of the types of information previously included on the channel are "the Denison Magazine calling for submissions, the Big Red Express shuttle, and advertisements for the writing center."

Panovska has been the Channel 20 station manager since her freshman year. "I borrow posters," Panovska said as she opened the door to her personal office on the first floor of the library, and pointed to the walls adorned with flyers. Her impressive and eclectic collection features everything from a rainbow "Peace" poster from the racial events of two years ago, to a sign for a McCain versus Obama debate night in Slayter, to a "Don't be a ghoul… wrap that tool" safe sex Halloween poster sponsored by the Student Global Aids Campaign. "We've become so used to seeing posters that we don't look for them anymore," Panovska said.

Enter the exciting potential of televised advertising. Mary Lindsey, an administrative assistant for the Office of Security and Safety, is the staff advisor for Channel 20. She monitors the channel, looks for content across campus, and makes sure important safety information is featured. The channel's current content includes "information from the residential halls at the beginning of the year, fire safety, safewalk, safety announcements and tornado safety instructions,"Lindsey said. She also includes timely practical information, such as spring break parking guidelines.
